rack and Pinion upgrade

Hey all:

I have a 73 C10 4x4 and would like to upgrade the steering to a rack and pinion system. at stock height.

Has anyone here done this to a 4X4? if so what system did you use and what issues did you run into during the swap?

If your truck is 4x4 then it is a k10, not a c10. I doubt anyone here has done a rack and pinion swap on a 4x4, maybe a 2wd..

I don't think I'd consider rack and pinion an upgrade for one of these 4x4's, most people upgrade to crossover steering. Crossover has no fab work, rack and pinion has quite a bit.

Crossover in the long run would probably be cheaper as well, and would be much stronger, and bolting on parts, that being said not many people do it to k10's, they usually at least are upgrading to 3/4 ton axles. Typically people spend that money on a 1 ton axle setup.

Depends on what you plan to do with the truck.

I believe that if you use a crossover setup you can also switch to a 2WD steering box. There are more vendors for improved 2WD boxes that have less play than the stock steering after a box rebuild.
