I'm doing ball joints on my 87 v10. It hasn't been apart in like 100 years and the spindle was rust welded onto the knuckle. I got it off after 2 hours of cursing but now I'm stuck because I don't have a large enough socket. What size do I need to remove the upper ball joint nut. I'm running to the store now to pick up a couple things and would like to get an impact socket as this thing is probably rusted on too. Its the castellated on top, its bigger than 1 and 1/4

I don't remember right off the top of my head, but make sure you get the special socket for the ball joint taper inside the inner c. If you don't back it out before you torque the lower ball joint, you'll never get either of the joints torqued properly.

Back the taper out, torque the lower joint, torque the tapered insert, THEN torque the upper ball joint.

Thanks, I bought a cheap set of 3/4 inch impact sockets from harbor freight. This job has turned into a bit of a headache and i'll start another thread.
