Got a need for a cheap truck for someone. Too long of a story to type on my phone, but...

It’s a 2000 C2500. My experience with trucks of this era is limited to a half ton burb and tahoe. Both suffered 1-2 slip which quickly led to tranny failure. Those had the 4L60 and I’m assuming this would have the 4L80.

Are the 4L80s better in this era? Seems everyone I’ve talked to that had vortec era 4l60s had that issue and I’d need this to be relatively issue free.

They’re asking $2500 and it has 157k on a 5.7. Any comments on how much life one can typically expect from this truck. Looks to be in good shape.

Thanks!

If it's be reasonably maintained, it's good for another 100k before you should worry.

Also, if it hasn't been done yet, it could need new intake gaskets in the near future.

That’s not so bad...

Hopefully they’ll get back to me.

Should be a 14b Semi Float axle and 4L80-E. Stronger powertrain that half tons for sure.

Intake gaskets as mentioned. Fuel pumps/pressure can be in issue with those era vortecs. If you have a fuel pressure gauge take it with you.

With the ignition on it should hit 60-66 psi.

Also check with it running, if you are dropping below 60 then you will have drivability/power issues. The injector poppets need a lot of pressure to operate correctly. Sometimes its as easy as an old fuel filter holding you up or it can be something a bit more expensive.

Not trying to scare you out of it, just want you to be aware. I had an otherwise great running vortec that had fuel delivery issues, even with a new pump it was only hitting 55 psi and it was just gutless going up a grade.

The fuel pump ground point is behind the driver side front tire. So it gets a lot of spray from the front tire. This can cause a bad ground that can cause odd fuel pump issues.

I took the grounds off of mine, used a dremel and ground everything down (cleaned to bare metal) then re-assembled. Then coated the whole area with liquid electrical tape to seal it.

Sounds like an LS based truck would have a lesser propensity for mileage based issues.

Still looking...
