Question about a k10 hub

I understand there if supposed to be a c-clip on the outside of the hub to retain the hub assembly. But is there supposed to be a c-clip in the axle shaft??.
I read a couple articles and watched a few videos. I don't want to put it back together wrong. I noticed there is a groove on the axle shaft where I would imagine a c-clip would go, but I don't know. If anyone has any pictures of their hub assemblies tore apart that would be great!!

Yes there is a c-clip on the end of the axle shaft.

I found a service kit for the hub that has the correct c-clips. I'll be ordering that soon, hopefully I can get these balljoints done sooner then later.

Mine had snap rings with the auto locking hubs, I had to remove and discard them when I put manual hubs in, hubs wouldn't fit with them on

Are you referring to a snap ring on the axle in the hub? Mine doesn't have one but all the videos I see do. I just have the big ring around the hub that holds the gears in. Should I have the smaller snap ring too? I have manual hubs. If so what size are these snap rings.

I haven't had any problems out of mine not having the snap ring, I retrofitted the manual hubs over a year ago.

It will run without the snap ring but that is what holds the stub axle tight against the seal on the back of the spindle. Without it you may have problems with water / dirt getting in.

That's what I figured. Any local part stores I could get s replacement set?

Probably a hardware store. Iirc, the axle dia (major) is 1.31". You need an external snap ring.

I'll measure to confirm and take an axle with me too. I replaced my ball joints and I still have wobble between the spindle and the hub. What all should I replace? Planning in spindle bearing and seals atleast. Should I also do the bushing and bearings in the hub?

Unrelated question.....the studs that go thru the knuckle and spindle for holding the heat shield on.... official name of those and are those usually available at part stores?

On the snapping rings fur the axle shaft.
Usually, the snap rings from a hardware store will be thinner than the original snap rings.
If it were Me, I would try a machine shop for the snap rings, their selections usually will have the thicker snapping rings.

Those are a grade eight bolt, be sure to replace them with the same.
Bolt head will have eight lines on the tops.

A grade 8 bolt will work but you'll have to grind on the head some. The spindle studs don't have hex heads because they are right up against the inside wall of the knuckle.
