Hello, I’m new here and by no means do I consider myself a mechanic. I can and have changed a lot of parts though. There was a rubber pad type thing on the end of proportion valve where the metering valve is. I was stupidly trying to heat end of brake line fitting to get it loose and burned off the plastic or rubber so that now the end of metering valve on proportion valve is exposed. Does this matter? Was that just a dust cover?

After digging around on the net and looking at some pictures of new valves I figured out that what came off was just a rubber cap kind of like bleeder valve has. I got everything back together and it seems to be working fine.
