One more thing to consider is replacing the engine and tranny mounts with some polyurethane mounts. I didn't do it to start with and ended up doing it after I installed the engine. Mine has clam shell mounts and it was a real PITA with the engine installed.

That idea had crossed my mind. Might as well do it while the stuff is out. Kinda surprised the 350's only need 2 engine mounts. Figured it would need more.

I just contacted CFM-tech.com to find out if they have a TBI solution for that ZZ4. If so, I'll go that route instead of chopping up fuel lines and such.

They have a 720 CFM ported TBI designed for a 7.4L engine and a 620 for my 5.7L. I wonder which one they'll recommend?

Never heard back from these guys... Oh well.

I am thinking about not putting so much money into a better engine. Instead, I figure I would get the current engine rebuilt, swap the heads and intake to vortec, get the better flowing TBI parts from CFM-tech. drop in a mild cam, and redo the exhaust system. I mean, it has just over 82.7K miles on it and it runs strong. I'd actually like to drop some money into getting the truck repainted its' factory colors, replace the interior, and perform general maintenance to keep it as my daily driver. Maybe even convert it to have a manual tranny.

Anyhoot, I don't I am so much interested in building a hotrod as I am a dependable vehicle which looks good.
