Problem w/ Turbo 350

Ok here goes the story. I have a 1987 GMC with 5.7L TBI. OEM 700R4 went out so I decided to go with a turbo 350. Got everything pulled and put back in with new seal and filter on tranny. New u-joints all the way around and new started while I had it pulled. Slapped the 350 in there today and gave it brand new fluids. No leaks so we decided to turn it over and now I have a pretty bad oil leak lloks like it was coming from the top of the bell housing... Any suggestions?

Pressure test port of the vent tube are the only things in that general area.

Would that cause the engine to not turn over? It will crank and when it cranks is the only time it leaks

Got to get hotrod to chime in on this, I am leaning towards the converter seal. It would not keep the engine from turning over. If that is happening then you have a major mechanical failure in there somewhere.

Is it tranny fluid or oil? Look all around the trans and make sure theres no holes open. There is a port that has a small bolt in it. Might be 2 cant remember. If its comin out the vent tube them somethin is wrong internally. How much fluid did you add?

Check that you didnt pinch any distributor wires between the bellhousing and engine. That would keep it from running. For the leak you really need to give us a better idea where it's coming from. Torque converter area, vent at the top of the trans, dipstick tube area, pressure/return lines for the cooler, or out the back of the trans.

Oil leak while cranking? You could have broke the oil pressure sending unit that's up near the distributor, right at the top of the bellhousing.

Still dont know if its oil or tranny fluid. Guess he figured it out and left....

i agree when separating the motor and trans if he didnt secure the motor it let down against the fire wall and prolly broke/cracked the brass 45degree elbow on the block that the sending unit screws into. thats the only thing around the distributor that will be a pressurized leak like that
