What is the difference in the power window motor and regulators from 77-81 and the 82-87? I have a pair of doors from a later model truck believe they came off a 91 burb, but they are empty shells. My truck is a factory all power 1979 Silverado, I am going to do a swap over to the much nicer newer doors and redo all my window felt/rubber as well as power window motors/ regulators, just wondering what the best course of action would be? Go older style stuff, newer style stuff, or does it even matter?

It was a different motor design. Personally, I'd stick with the stock type stuff to make things simpler.

I always suggest using newer style reverse polarity motors-much more efficient. The 77-81 window motors are self grounding and are NOT the same as 82-up motors so even using relay kits for improved speed must be designed for use with self grounding motors.

You can try and source an 82-up power window/lock harness from any regular cab truck and for your ‘79 it will literally be a plug n play setup. Or, I can supply you with a NEW factory fit style accessory harness whichever route you take if you would rather go with all new wiring.

I was going to wire in the relays for the windows anyways, how much are your kits? I can get entire regulator and motor assemblies through USA1 for around $100 each and it's the path I'm considering taking. Just didnt know if I can do that or not.

As long as your door lock relay is good you wont need a new one so a full harness kit base price is $279. Relay upgrade is $59 additional, and if you want auto down add $60 and for auto down/up add $100.

I just put doors from a 91 burb in my 77 c10. In my case i used the glass and vent wings from the 91 and reused the motors and regulators from the 77 because the wiring is different. If money isnt an object use all later model parts. They improved things throughout the 18 years gm produced these doors. the door switches are also different in the two systems.
