I dont think binding the wheels in any way would STOP the steering pump, I'm thinking the pump may have died. Was it a reman unit?

I'd say, welcome to the world of sh!t quality parts. The pump should sit and spin, no matter what the load is. Think about what it does when the wheels go to full lock....it doesn't stop spinning the p/s pump pulley.

You'd probably be better off getting an original pump from a wrecking yard. Or if you have a NAPA in town, they'd have better quality parts than AZ or the other schlock parts sellers.

Yeah dont buy autozone parts, if their salesmen wont stand behind what the sell and think its a funny joke that **** does not belong on a truck you like.

Rockauto.com has ac delco stuff for cheap, if I dont get it online it comes from Napa, they seem to have pretty good stuff but you cant beat Ac Delco.

Edit: Just remembered why I hate autozone, their alternator that lasts a few months. I was in a massive pinch, like just had a tooth pulled out of town and bleeding everywhere on the way home and had to find an alternator at 8 pm. I put it in the truck around October or November, some time around January or February the bearings were shot and it was making horrible noise. I took it in and explained the situation and the parts guy would not give me a new one because it was still charging, I finally had to kinda make a scene and get the manager involved before I got a new one. The manager picked it up by the pulley to put it in their testing machine and there was a very noticeable clunk from all the play in the shaft, he immediately said just go get a new one......

My favorite thing from all of these places is the lifetime warranty policy. Neat idea, 'cept how many friggin' times do you want to change out a starter, a water pump, an alternator, a p/s pump, etc. Sure, maybe they might be easy to get to on some vehicles, and you spin your own wrenches, so it's not that much work....but the high failure rate, and the dealing with the, "It can't be that, I just replaced it" become a real drag after a while. Not to mention getting stranded, or worse, the wife gets stranded.

I've gotten to the point where I just leave stuff alone until it absolutely fails, rather than install aftermarket or rebuilt parts as some sort of preventative.
