Is there a spray paint that you recommend? Sonething that would hopfully prevent future rust?

The key is to get rid of the rust so it cant come back.

I have just fixed my peeling paint/surface rust hood. Used 60 grit first, then went to 220 with orbital sander. Sprayed primer and followed with 400. After that it was ok for painting

If want to treat the rust you can use this:

http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/duplicolor-rust-fix-rust-converter-black-10.25-oz.-aerosol-rf129/7140921-P

Sand off all the loose rust, spray this on and let it dry for 24 hours. Scuff the coated area lightly with a red scotch bright pad, don't cut thru the black coating. Use this only on the areas with rust, it does nothing for clean steel.
Prime with an epoxy based primer/sealer, then filler primer, block sand smooth the filler primer and paint the hood the color of your choice.

Sanded a portion of the hood today with 80 grit and an orbital sander..... shot it with rustoleum primer. Worked GREAT! Very happy with that part so far. It's a temporary thing to Atleast make the truck more presentable

I see that hood is bent :( Have you looked around for a replacement? The trick with those old round eyes is to keep those hood hinges lubed so that they don't bind.

O ya it's been bent for some time. I'm just painting it for now to see what can be done. Ultimately, before I get a new paint job entirely, I'll have a new hood and the bed fixed. I wasn't sure if the hood support on LMC would help an already bent hood. But I've been shopping around for a new or used hood in good shape.

You know I have often wondered if a guy were to make his own with some nice sturdy angle iron if a guy couldn't use that to suck his hood back straight. Its worth a try :)

Mine has a home made brace on it. I bought it that way.
