My 83 k10 has had a "popping" noise that sounds like a dull thudding when im making hard turns or turning my wheel in park. Hasnt seemed to be a problem when driving but im trying to resolve the issue before it becomes one. Seams to be coming from around the gear box but i cant pinpoint it. Thumping can be felt through the floor and steering column. Any advice is greatly appreciated yall. I can post a video if necessary.

Look at the frame around your steering box for cracks.

The above suggestions are more likely, but I had a pop/thud in my old 84' C10. I ended up rebuilding the entire front suspension because of it, and DAG NABBIT! It was still there...Man, was I pissed. It ended up being loose core support to fender bolts. The body would flex just enough when turning the wheel whilebacking out of a parking spot, or going down the road and making a turn, they would bind up, and then POP.

As I said, not likely your issue, but just throwing it out there.

Already checked both of those. Not ball joints not cracked frame not tie rod ends. Sounds like something is sticking and breaking loose when im turning the wheel. Thanks for the suggestions though

My girl's 78 square was doing the same thing and after checking all the crap it turned out to be a broken centering pin on the driver's side leaf spring. The popping was from the u-bolt top plate sliding on the spring , it slid so little that it was hard to see but it sure was loud.

All great suggestions above. FWIW the frame cracks behind my steering box were not visible until I removed it. 2 of the bolt holes had a piece of frame about an inch big that fell out, and the other 2 had cracks that ran in behind the gear box.

It is your steering box rivets. Same issue with mine. Have a 91 improved valve box and a summit Steering shaft waiting. But I'm waiting on ORD Braces :)
