thats not it either. The plug looks like that but the wires are different colors and it won't reach the passenger side valve cover. The wires (I looked at them closer and wiped off some sludge) are yellow and either light blue or light green.

Any chance the grey wire might actually be brown that has faded? Do you or did you have an ESC system installed? If so, is there a tip-in vacuum switch mounted on the firewall?

It could be on the RH side - by the transmission dipstick:

Or on the LH side behind the master cylinder vacuum booster:

my truck has it on the LH side…but it is already plugged in and looks exactly like the black plug in your pic…unfortunately thats not it.

The plug I took pic of is yellow and light blue
Maybe that is it after all then. There was an engine swap to a crate motor on this truck....maybe that was required of the old carb but not this one? I may just tape it up and forget about it.

I m not sure but I think you have to connect the two wires together in order to have over drive .it was for the engine getting up to temp before overdrive will work.

Look on passenger side valve cover .it's for the temp control.
Jim,
When you say "temp control" is it related to the electronic choke control?

Ok...skip my last comment. I'll run it and see if it kicks into overdrive with this disconnected.
Thanks

Maybe it is related....overdrive wont engage until the engine is warm enough to run with the choke off....?

I wonder if this provides power for the auto choke and wont allow OD without continuity?

Never mind any of the above. I just realized there is a brass plug in tv he valve cover, passenger side. During the motor swap previous owner forgot to replace that switch. Jim called it. Has nothing to do with the choke. I just need to get a temp switch, replace and plug in.

Thanks to all
This is a great sight!

Last question. I'm looking for the sensor part #

I found something called the coolant temp sensor in the electrical....then powertrain control section of the parts diagram.
Number 15326386
Can anyone verify that is the correct part... the temp sensor on top of the passenger side valve cover?

The diagram shows no location so I'm not sure

Here is a pic of my right side valve cover with the connector by it. The connector will reach but it is a tight fit. All I have on my valve cover is a grommet. Is that the correct location of the sensor? I need to get one and can't seem to find part numbers. Anyone know the technical term for the sensor this plugs into? I still can't identify it in the electrical schematics.

Coolant temp sensor ... dr side lower block.

First wires you asked about should connect to O drive disconnect vacuum switch. Previous poster showed it in a pic. Dr side firewall next to booster. It disconnects the o drive when under low vac.

I have an 82 k10 in the same state. Took me 2 weeks to figure that out. Same wire colors as well.
