Plastic cover over blower mortor. Do I have to remove the inner fender?

Hey everyone my whole firewall has this plastic cover over it and i went to replace my blower mortor today and realised that I can not acess the mortor with the cover on. it looks like I'll have to remove the inner fender to get enough room to move the cover out of the way so that I can take the blower mortor out.

Wtf.... I've never seen a cover for the a/c box.... it looks like the resistor block was mounted on the cover? Not the actual box? My head hurts lol, I would just pull that junk out if it were mine.

I've always dropped the inner fender well to get that out, mostly because the bottom bolt is next to impossible to reach without the space.

Don't actually recall that cover on my chevy's, but on my GMC's for sure.

Theres a thread somewhere some guys will drill a hole in the inner fender that lines up with the bolt.

That's what I did, but I didn't have a cover on my box. I made a hole big enough to fit a 1/4 inch extension through it, then connected my socket on the other side of the fenderwell lol

Well I guess I'll drop the inner fender then. Can I do that without removeing the outfender and core support?

It's soundproofing. The diesel trucks had it, apparently some of the gas ones did too. The resistor block kind of sandwiches it to the plenum, but it's in the normal location.

Well the whole project was a bit more work than I anticipated but it’s done! The new blower motor is in, I think I’m going to get a new resistor as well as mine is pretty rusty.
