Dumb question, but i cant answer it myself. Anyone have pics/or can you get pics of how your towhooks are mounted to your frame. I have a set of hooks, and are told they fit this body style. I just cant figure out how these mount to my frame.

Dont ridicule me, just try and help.

There are '73-'80 hooks, and then '81-'87/'91 tow hooks. I may have some pics already, I'll look.

i have these d rings welded to my bumper and the hooks are bolted to the frame with two bolts. they were on the truck when i got them so i dont know if the PO drilled the holes or not

Not to be a smart ass, just for clarification purposes... I guess I could be an ass about this since I drive a tow truck, but these are referred to as RECOVERY Hooks, rather than tow hooks. In the occupational tow world, there is a difference between tow and recovery hooks and you must use the right hook points for the right purpose or you will tear stuff up. Just sayin...

Good info Bucket. I will ask my dad this weekend when I see him and get the scoop on whats up with them. The more I talk to him the more I realize just how many little things he has changed on it over the years.

New guy uses the search function.....

My soon-to-meet-it's-maker Suburban had factory "recovery" hooks (happy now HRPC?) and I was going to transplant them to the pickup truck. But I noticed a piece of plate that looks like a reinforcement riveted on the frame of the 'burb.

I'm afraid I already know the answer to this, but do all the factory installs have this plate? Or is it because the K10 suburban has a lighter frame than the heavy 20 series per the following thread?

Considering the torque and stress that any hooks would be asked to take, I'd transplant the backup plates to better protect the frame.

I forgot about those reinforcement plates. I think my Burb has those too.

I always thought the Civilian tow hooks were a bit wimpy... If you're gonna do it go all out like the military did in the 80's. You can hook a NATO tow bar to rotate up and down on the clevis pins mounting bar and pull one around. Been there done that.

This is the front bumper and clevis setup from the CUCV M1008, M1009, M1010, M1028, & M1030
Notice the massive backup plate opposite the clevis bar block on the frame.

Aren't these hook supposed to be mounted at the back? You know, to pull Fords?
