Parking Light Puzzle

[1980 Big Ten]

My passenger side parking light only illuminates with the turn signal. Is this the sign of a bad switch at the dash? Could it be something else?

No, if the rest of the parking lights work, the switch is good. Most likely a bad bulb or corroded bulb socket.

Interesting. That would seem to me that the turn signal would send a higher voltage than what the parking lights receive when the switch is on. Nevertheless, I‘ll order some replacement bulbs and see if that fixes it. Thanks!

Get a bulb socket cleaning brush, very handy.

The bulb has two filaments, dim for the parking lights, bright for the turn signal.

Those socket brushes are great! @1980 Big Ten No higher voltage sent to the turn signal, the difference in brightness is because there are two filaments in the bulb, and one filament is higher wattage than the other. Think of the old 3 way lamp bulbs for your house, same principle. Like Wayne said, it's a bulb or socket issue more than likely.
