Ordering new Seats

Well we decided to bite the bullet and order some new seats for the Dooley. A while back a guy on here posted his story about getting into a rear-end collision and not having a headrest and it got me to thinking. The old bench seat only goes about 3/4 of the way up my back - and that could be an issue if I get get rearended on an off ramp or something.

So we decided to order these:

Ordering in tan with high-resiliency foam and extra springs on the driver's seat for my phat ass. $1281 all told including shipping. I think it's going to be a nice upgrade over the old torn bench I have now.

I'll post updates once they show up. I guess it's about 10 weeks before delivery so it'll be a while.

Next up will be replacement seatbelts to go with them...

That is something I have always detested about the older vehicles - no headrest. The seats going into ours have them.

Yeah we decided to use some of our stimulus check lol. I'm in the process of ordering now. They are sold through a couple sites I think, but I'm going through shop4seats.com.

They advertise a direct bolt-in with their adapter brackets. I'm interested to see if that ends up being true. We shall see.

Seats were delivered last week. I have not seen them yet as we are out of town. I was supposed to get home two days ago, but the fuel pump went out on the family burb 40 minutes into the trip home. Had to get towed back. It's fixed but now I have to wait a couple of days. I'll be posting lots about how the swap goes. Pics to come soon I hope!

A few photos showing what was delivered and a few before shots. Unfortunately I did have few issues with the new seats, mainly that the lower seat bun under the center console pulled away from its hinge - likely a shipping issue. I also have an issue with the brackets for bolting to the floor. They are simply too wide. I'm working with Shop4Seats on a resolution and will update with results. For the moment I cannot install the seats, mainly because of the bracket issue. See pics below. Once installed I will write up a full review of the seats. From an initial look they have some good, and some bad aspects.

Really looking forward to seeing the new seats installed.

Got the seats installed over the weekend. Had to work around the tropical storm that blew through, but no big deal. The reason it took a while to get the seats installed was because I ran into a few issues.

1. The brackets provided were too wide to use the existing seat bolt holes. I could install the brackets to the floor no problem, but when I tried to install the subframe between them it would not fit. It looks like the manufacturer had something wrong there. So I used the existing bolt holes on the driver's side and then drilled new holes on the passenger side. Yes, I used backing plates underneath for strength.
2. The center console lower cushion pulled off of its hinge. I am working on a fix for that.
3. The passenger seat had a small cut in the lower cushion.

Due to these issues the company, Shop4Seats, was nice enough to refund me about 10% of the purchase price, and they are sending me a new passenger seat. I do not need to send back the first one. I think they did right by me. I'm actually pretty happy with their response. They offered to send a whole new center console, but I told them I could fix that and instead get the refund. Good company I would say. A little slow to communicate, but they came through in the end so I cannot complain.

So here are some pics. I also installed a new set of brown belts from Seatbeltplanet. VERY nice belts. I used the factory retractor brackets on the floor and modified the original retractor covers to fit over the new ones. Also had to use the OE shoulder mount bolts. Easy install and they look and feel NICE.
