Opinions on my rust issue

I am just looking for opinions on the best way to fix these rust spots.

They make patch panels for all those spots. Just cut out the rust and replace with patch panels IMO

I have some gift cards at lowes and I have been wanting to purchase a welder. Any recommendations on which welder would be best suited for making these repairs?

I put floor pans and rockers in both my trucks with a little 115 volt wire welder with flux core wire

Lincoln Electric welder...wire feed 110volt flux core. Whatever you do DON'T buy a Craftsman wire feed welder...absolute junk!. X2 with cutting out the rust and welding in patch panels. Get the patch panels BEFORE cutting out the rusty sections.

Don't use flux core. For a little bit more money you can get a gas setup. Much cleaner welds.

I removed and welded in a whole new floor in my '80 Camaro with a harbor freight flux-core wire welder. The welds look horrifying, but they hold and will end up under carpet, insulation etc anyway. It was dirt cheap and got the work done.

The Millermatic is good for what your doing. I use the 141.

Get a Lincoln 145 I think is what's available now I have a 135 and have done a lot of things with it. It is fair priced and a good welder.

But definitely get the gas bottle way better welds flux core is garbage it works but harder to weld sheet metal and ugly. Splatters way more as well.


But if you have about 1200 bucks I recommend a Miller 211 great welder I just upgraded to it.

It looks like it needs replaced. And I guarantee you one you get it all broken down and torn apart there will be more that you cant see.

I understand you may have some doubts and apprehension about cutting your truck apart but I bet you can do it. Get a 4 1/2" angle grinder, some thin cut off wheels, various grits of flap wheels and maybe a stone wheel and any little welder. Asses your damage from the top and underneath and order your patch panels.
