1. Mirror didn't break off....it fell off the window. Didn't get put back up again cuz of the bitter cold
2. I didn't cut up any speaker pods. I did trim the door to fit nicer, better sounding speakers because the stock size speakers are pitiful.
3. I haz no soldering skillz = butt connections :hands:
4. Speedo is 23 years old. Fix attempted and condition was fully disclosed as was everything else.

I know you were just pokin' but that is and was a darn nice car. The minor issues with it have nothing to do with how it take care of a vehicle but it's hard to keep up on the little nick nack stuff when it's 10* outside for 2 months or more.

It is a nice car, I love it truth be told. I know Jake will get many years of use out of it.

I was surprised you didn't keep the alarm for the '98?

ehhhh :secret: Even I use solderless connectors. I kinda suck at soldering too. I can do it, but it just don't look pretty and I'm fukin' picky like that.

I figured it'd get more use with Jake and the caprice. I figured with whatever he may not know how to do to get wired up he had you as a resource so I wanted to throw it in with the sale. I'll probably get an aftermarket alarm and remote start for the '98.

My dad can solder so I should probably have him show me how. I just haven't taken the time yet. I just got into doing my own stereo installs two years ago or less.

Yeah man, you definitely should, it's actually really easy. You basically just put a little solder on your iron, touch it to your wires and heat them up until they start to wick up the solder you are applying to the wire, not the iron.

Common mistake is to just touch the solder to the iron and let it run into the wires, or to drip solder onto the wires. That doesn't work well. What you can do is "lead" the solder into the wires you are joining by just barely touching it to the very end of the iron so it melts a bit and then moving it immediately to the wire to get the flow of solder started.

Maybe I should make a DIY video to show how to do it, that could probably be handy for a lot of folks.

Not sure if you are doing a stereo install in the near future, but one tip I have is if you are installing an amp and have a remote turn on wire, put a bullet connector on it so you can disconnect it in the event you have to pull the deck out. I added one to the Caprice (actually used a female and male spade) just in case.

Don't forget to put your heat shrink on BEFORE you solder your wires. :D

Naww, I planned a complete harness swap. If I Understand correct, 87-90 use a stand alone ECM harness kinda like the ECS does right? Just add the ECM and the harness off the ECM and hook-up all the leads to the proper sensors and done right? I'm thinking a wire from the TBI harness will go somewhere to get power.

Yeah, you would have to add a power source, both battery and ign. switched. Also have to add a DRAC if you don't already have one (if 84' and up and you have cruise, you have the provision on the cluster for one). Make sure you grab the DRAC from the donor too, it has two outputs, where the cruise DRAC only has 1 output (different pulse per mile rate). I think the only other thing I had to do was tie into the crank circuit for the ECM so it knows when the engine is cranking over. Oh, had to tie into the brake switch for the ECM controlled TCC lockup wiring.

I did most of my soldering on my fuse block. I ran a wire from the junction block to the fuse block, and then to the fused constant 12v+ feed for the ECM. The ECM 12v+ and ignition system 12v+ that require ignition switched power, I powered via a relay that the ignition switch powers up, just so they got a direct feed from the battery instead of going all over the place.

I do believe we have derailed this thread. :D

Yes, we totally derailed it. But who cares?. It's just a GMT400 thread.

HR should setup and run a Crossfire Injection setup just to be different. Really all they are is 2 1BBL throttle bodies on a crossram intake for more torque.
