This particular setup has the wrong geometry for those style hinges. When lifting the hood, it also moves forward, which would be counterproductive of what the struts are trying to do. Besides that, the hood would still try to buckle because of where the strut is mounted to the hood. BUT! There's still a way of doing it. The strut would mount at a point on the hood that's closer to the leading edge, and it would mount to the fender back near the hinge. This way, the strut would lift the hood as well as help move it forward. It also would put the stress at the front of the hood to keep it from buckling in the middle. And as another benefit, the strut would be out of the way of you leaning over the fender to work under the hood.
