Wasn’t GM repainting grey and black vehicles under warranty, because either the prep work sucked or the primer they used sucked?

Yes, water based primer, improper prep, it fell right off. Ten year paint warranty after that up until 06 or so.

Oh, I thought you were just doing the roof. That’s what I was talking about.

I probably will do the roof and the window jams. I need one window and all new seals.

Hahaha!
There are actually some rust holes where paimt scratches were left unattended. A hole under the pass door handle, bottom of ds rear door, bottom of the quarter on ds, but nothing horrendous.

What a rust hole in the paint, Or an actual hole you could stick a pocket screwdriver in?

I was talking to a buddy that works for the postal service out here now. he grew up in Michigan and delivered mail there too. he said they called summer queens "California cars". I never really gave thought to the corrosion people face where salt is applied to the road. my cousin moved to Michigan last fall and said stuff gets bad out there fast.

makes me have more respect when you see an old clean car out there. also make me grateful that they don't salt in my area... they sand on occasion.

I spray the undersides of my vehicles with oil in the fall, keep them washed and don't have any trouble.

People who get a scratch or chip, ignore it, never wash their vehicle, lose them in about 5-6 years.

I need to pull the cowl and see how many rotten leaves are composting in there. Florida live oaks are the worst. The leaves are acidic and take forever to decompose.

An old guy (he was 80 in the 7os) paid me to paint the underside of his car with old motor oil in the fall.

I spray it on with an old siphon feed gun, goes everywhere, makes a mess, turns to goo on the underside and keeps everything pretty protected.

My truck had the small bit of rot it had in the kick panel from sitting in Arkansas with no cowl cover and the whole thing filled with pine needles and leaves, damn shame really.

Wash the truck get all loose chips off then let it dry and sand it of if you are lazy take a wire wheel to it (wire wheel may take some metal with it but it fast. then get all the leavings of the sandpaper or wire wheel then i would put 2 coats of primer then put on the paint in as many coats as you think you need.

A few pics that show the mild rust. The roof shots are the driver's side. They really show how much of the paint is baked off.
