Old air compressor question

I went and looked at an old 2stage air compressor that was for sale. When I spun it over it shot a little burst of air from a hole that had previously contained something. Does anyone have any idea what belongs here?

It’s a Wayne 2 stage pump and what ever is missing was on the intake port between the 1st and second stage. In fortunately it was not running so I don’t know what will happen when it is running. But for the price I paid I can’t loose

Yep its a pressure relieve safety valve. You should be able to file the boss down flat and tap it with a 1/4 NPT thread cutter. Just make sure that it is about 20 to 25 PSI higher than the max cut-out pressure. In the meantime you could just plug it with a pipe plug to figure out the pressure if you needed to.

It is on the low pressure side so I am assuming it won’t be ore than 150psi, however I am having a hard time finding info on the pump
