I cut the oil pressure sender connector out of my harness because I thought the gauge on my 79 c10 was mechanical. Thought I didn’t need it. Low and behold, it’s wired! Now I have to wire a new up. To be honest, I’d prefer the oil pressure sender to be out of the harness anyways because it wires into the bulkhead on the truck and if I ever want to remove the harness I can just leave the connector there.

The pressure switch is not wired into the pcm.

5.3’s require a 100psi sender. Anybody have experience wiring a stand-alone oil pressure sender?

What engine are you using? What oil pressure gauge are you going to use?

I'm using the autometer adapter and the original engines oil sender. My gauge only goes up to 60 psi, dunno why you would need a 100 psi sender, especially since your sending to an old gauge (assuming).

A 5.3 engine out of a 2000 Silverado. And I’m running the factory mechanical gauge in the 79 c10

Perhaps someone can correct me, but I don't believe that the squares had a "mechanical" oil pressure gauge. Thought it was either electrical gauge or an oil warning light that is also electric.

I think you’re right. Or at least what I’m seeing. There is a tan wire coming out of the bulkhead into the engine bay

@Timmy adkins

Mechanical oil pressure gauges use a thin steel tube to run the oil pressure right to the gauge. No sender needed.

yup. An expensive adapter (~$15-20). Might could find one locally for $5 with a little research on the block thread size/pitch.

My 77 has a mechanical oil pressure gauge. Used auto meter adapter in the factory 5.3 oil pressure sending unit location.
