Iv got my 87 stepside 4x4, its an automatic and was suppose to have an overdrive tranny in it (700r4) Im assuming... To my surprise after ripping it and the old busted motor out it was a tore up 350 trans. Im building a 350 with a 98 vortec block and was wondering if a NV4500 would bolt up to it. Im assuming I would need some sort of tcase adapter for the tcase I have now. (Havent payed attention to what it is, but will look tomorrow). Im hoping I can find a NV4500 and tcase together. Would the spline count be the same as what I have in there (not knowing what it is yet)?

Also did the NV4500 come with a granny gear? I have heard of it, but not 100% sure. Im not a transmission kinda guy.. Am I going to need differnt size drive shafts?

Nope, can't use the current t-case because it will have a 27 spline output and the nv4500 has a 32 spline output. Yes, it has a granny low, the ratio changed at some point so there is two different versions. You will likely need to have driveshafts made the right length, but that will also depend on what t-case gets used.
