I just installed my NV4500 and used the AA kit (bell housing + hydraulic slave mounting bracket)

2 questions:

1. I could only get a 12” clutch setup … no 11” was available.. and my stock clutch was also 12”… Everything seems to bolt up… Am I in for a rude awakening when I crank it?

2. Anyone have a pic of their AA slave kit installed?

Thanks for any feedback..

I got the same setup. My 12 inch bolted up and fit fine in the garage. Once I tried to mate it to the engine.....guess what? Flywheel hit the bottom of the the bell housing. Put a McCloud 11 inch in and it works great. Just my experience but I guess that's why the AA instructions say to use an 11 inch? Me and @Frankenchevy have a thread on here detailing the whole process, slave kit pics included. We both did the conversion at the same time. I'll try to find it and post the link.

@SquareRoot thank you, super helpful. Quick question, re-reading your post.. your flywheel hit the bell housing… where mine when on perfectly…. I wonder what the difference is? I purchased a stock 168 tooth flywheel and clutch kit from Oreilly’s…???

On your slave mounting bracket…do your forks release completely off of the throw out bearing?

I mounted mine exactly like yours… but haven’t tighten the slave all the way down onto the AA mounting bracket yet as it felt like it needed more roo any sense..???

I bought the trans from a guy who wrecked his 93 truck who had just put in a new clutch. So I got everything with it, including a 12" clutch. I think the issue was that even though it bolted to the flywheel, the flywheel offsets we're slightly different between the squarebody engine and the newer 1 piece rear main seal engine in the 93. If yours bolted up ok and it doesn't hit, you should be good.
On the fork question:, both FrankenChevy and I had to shorten the adjustable push rod. The one in the kit is way longer than needed. Notice, I almost had to trim the rubber boot as it was fully compressed. At rest you want the bearing about 1/8th inch from engaging the clutch disk. Without a gap, it will always be engaged and wear the t/o bearing out in no time.

Dont know if this will work with your setup, but I have used the 15530202 Bellhousing off the later SM465 with hydraulic clutch which is for a 12" clutch. I believe it fits the NV4500? looking at the trans mount holes

Notice the bigger lower clutch disk area bulge for the 12", its basically the same for the non-hydraulic SM465 bellhousing shown below which is a 6263756, it looks the same without the hydraulic slave mount but I dont think this fits the NV trans, I could be wrong.

I've seen folks drill the 4500 face and use a standard chevy bellhousing.
Works fine, last long time...going to do it when I install mine.

There are two versions of the 4500. Early and late. The early has a smaller bolt pattern that requires being bolted to the trans from the inside of the bellhousing. It's a PITA but can work. The late version requires modification because it has uses an internal T/O bearing and has no provision for a fork. There's a few ways to skin the cat depending on how much time/money you have. I chose to spend the money on the AA stuff, bolt it together and be done with it. Been working perfect for almost 10K miles.

I used the aa housing and 12 in clutch. Fits fine. AA did say that some will fit and some don’t. I used a autozone replacement diaphram clutch. Flywheel is the same as 11in clutch so any application that uses a 11 in clutch will work.
