I have 2 NP 208’s and both have tiny spiderweb cracking on the tails, and on the case. The cracks are on inside through to the outside. Wondering if anyone else has this and if it is a sign of the case failing?

It would be great if you could post some pictures of the cracks so folks can see them before giving advice. Note: OP edited his original post to include photos now.

It's just how they are made. It must have something to do with the specific casting process and material used.

My SIL has an '87 Jimmy with the 700r4/NP208. The chain case has a hairline fissure in it that we cleaned with brake cleaner and JB welded. It it holding fine so far...

Is it actually leaking? or seeping through the cracks? If not, I wouldn't worry about it.

My son hooked up to a diesel truck with the square body and tore up some bearings in transmission and transfer case.( I found this out after) he said the transfer case was leaking so the whole thing is wet. I just wasn’t going to clean it up if it was signs of it failing.

Looks normal to me, here's mine after working it over with a roloc gasket tool to smooth some of the casting marks. You can see the flange and the area below the added VSS looks similar to yours.
