New to the forum but getting some great info!

My pops purchased a 1977 Scottsdale K10 Shortbed Fleetside with 10,000 miles back in 1978 from the original owner. I got my driving lessons from him in it. Last year he signed over the title to me! I jumped right in to get it back in shape. I documented a bunch of it at http://chevy.piratesproductions.com/. Can't get the rebuilt qJet to cooperate so I just ordered a new square bore intake and Holly Street Warrior carburetor. I'd like to replace the air cleaner if anyone has thoughts on the best kind to use? I welcome any thoughts and feedback.

  7. RetroSound Stereo & Pioneer AMP/Speakers
  8. Much more....

Looks very nice. The only thing I do as far as air cleaners go is invert the lids on the factory ThermAC units so I'm not much help there, but it seems like you got a handle on everything. On a more personal note, I wish you could get the Quadrajet going well. I think it'd be a nice touch, but I understand the Holley/Weiand stuff has already been purchased. If the carb was cracked or warped, that's one thing, but if it was just improperly rebuilt or there's vacuum leaking around the primary shaft, you should hold onto it. They're really good carburetors when tuned correctly. I daily drive a car with a Quadrajet, and I get 20-22 MPG on the highway, and it's responsive and peppy while getting that. Not so much on the top end, but it's a 305 so you can't expect a whole lot.

Thanks! I definite will be holding on to the stock intake and Quadrajet. Its been rebuilt a couple of times and is not reliable at all and I'm kinda fed up with it. I'm not concerned about fuel economy and figured the new Holley setup might give me a bit more performance. I plan on taking it in for a dyno tune after the install is complete.

Wow, darn nice job man!
Next time around, I think it might have been Rich Weyand that mentioned Sean Murphy Induction for a quality carb r/r. Another is Ted's Carb service in Lancaster, Ca, they r/r distributors too.
