I'm new to four wheel drives....I have a 87 silverado automatic....my question will a transfer off of a standard transmission work on an automatic also?

I think the tail shafts are different. I could be wrong tho.

depends on what year the transfer case is, and which automatic you have.

The tranny is a TH350 looking for a transfer I found one that is out of mid 80's with a four speed.

The tranny is a TH350 looking for a transfer I found one that is out of mid 80's with a four speed.

no chance of it working then. the TH350 and 700R4 will have a 27 spline output shaft, and a TH400 and a late 465 will have a 32 spline input. earlier 465s were 10 spline. you can change the input for it to work, but its not going to bolt right on.
