Newbie here but the truck is a 1978

I've got a 1978 GMC that is complete just needs to find a new home to hang out at.
Wife says its gotta go if i am not going to fix it up and drive it again.
what would you think one could sell it for? It has sat for 10 years and both fuel tanks have rusted through but pour a little fuel in the carb and she starts right up. Always started even at -20 below. Just asking

Welcome, but it sounds like only for the short term

As it sits I would not offer but maybe $1500. Get it running reliably and maybe $3k. Looks to be a fair amount of rust visible so I'm assuming there is worse that I can't see in the pictures.

But its a MN truck not TX, we have a lot of salt in our winter diet up here.

Looks like a potentially decent winter beater truck.
This is a case of either spend some time and $ and get it driveable, or don’t expect anyone with any common sense to show up with more than $1000 in their pocket and talk you down from that, as it sits.

I live in New England, our salty winter roads eat vehicles alive as well. I have bought trucks in similar shape but were running and driving (drive it 2 hours home that day kind of deal) for less than a grand. Maybe post it as $1,200-1,500 and expect to get talked down from there.

If I were you I'd consider fixing and driving it. If it really only needs gas tanks to run that's cheap and easy. Hell, just do one to get it running. Drive it around and drive once in a while then the wife can't bitch. Plus, she basically told you that you were allowed to spend money on it, that's a go in my book!

Rust realistically doesn't look that bad. Toss some tanks in it, clean up the interior, slap some bondo over the ugliest spots and give it a halfass decent rattlecan paint job. Would only run you a few hundred bucks, maybe sprinkle a couple hundred more at it here and there if you really wanna get fancy and replace the carpet or twisted front bumper, then if you really don't want to keep it for yourself at least you will be able to sell it for $3-4k. Hell if you lived closer I'd scoop it up (you can keep those wheels though lol).

The rust I was talking about that really stood out is that it looks like in the door jamb there is a 4x4 inch patch that looks completely eaten away... I can't venture a guess to how it impacts the metal surrounding it but in my Mustang I've put my foot through the floor in spots like that on accident.
