Hello all. New guy here from St. Louis, MO. I am new to the 4x4 hobby(fast cars before) and thought this would be a good place to learn some stuff and maybe get some good opinions about my new project truck. Its a 79 K10 short bed. Mostly original and not in that bad of shape. I actually picked the truck up for doing a side job. It came with all kinds of extra parts too,(hood, a bunch of fenders, new rockers, new shocks, new header gaskets, new distributor, new master cylinder, new back sliding glass, an extra dashboard, 3" body lift, new front bumper, extra carb, and some other misc stuff). I am not sure what engine is currently in it, catalyst label says it came with a 6.6l 400ci small block. I haven't had a chance to get the casting numbers off the block yet, but I plan on doing so in the very near future. I dropped a battery in it and sprayed some starting fluid in the carb and she fired right up. I am hoping it still has the 400. If im not mistaken I think the 400 has 3 freeze plugs instead of only 2. I am not too sure about the body lift(im not a big fan of body lifts) but definitely will be investing in some type of suspension lift for it. Opinions??? A very good friend of mine is also into squarebodies and he has an 81 so he will more than likely be my compass in the beginning. I will add some pics so let me know what you think.

No on the body lift. If you want to lift it, lift it correct, with a suspension left. Good score, your dash pads look like they are in good shape, if you want to sell one, let me know, I have a 77 that needs a new pad. It's nice it came with extra parts, that way you don't have to hunt them down. don't be afraid to ask questions, someone here can help out.

yes the dash pads are in good shape. the original does have a crack in the center of it. it doesn't bother me none so im gonna leave it. The red dash pad is in very good shape but has GMC trim on it. Im sure its no problem to switch over the trim though. if your interested make me an offer.

50.00 + shipping. You might get more from somebody here that really needs one, I'd just like to have it for my 77 GMC Jimmy. Get your thread count up, and post your extra stuff.

What part of St Louis are you from? All of my family lives St. Louis, and have a few cousins that live in Cape, and Kimswick.

I'm not all that big on BROWN vehicles. But yet I acquired 2 brown trucks. After seeing this color on here, then in real life, I knew I'd be painting one of my brown trucks this color. I've been told it's a Toyota color and that Ford also has one so close you can't tell the difference unless they're side by side. In the event you decide to paint it and go back with brown, here's you a color option. Just get the Toyota code for it and do it up.

That paint looks like it might be able to be brought back to life though. Get you some clay bar, and a couple buddies, a case of beer on a warm spring day and you ought to be able to get it all done. The next day, you can put a coat of wax on it.

At first I did not like the brown paint at all, but the more I look at it the more I like it. It looks good with the metallic in it. the paint on my truck is not salvageable. not too worried about it though because I work in an autobody shop as a body technician, so the body work and paint will be the easy part. just cant decide what I want to do as far as a paint scheme. I think GM paint color is either Cordova Brown or Russet Brown. But then I throw in the idea of maybe doing a 2tone scheme with white in between the body side trim. Or if I even want to leave the body side trim on it. If I do leave it brown, I will probably take the headliner down and have just paint to match. Lots of options on this subject.

Same here, wasn't to crazy about the brown, but that metallic brown is awesome. Also, I got used to the Brown/Tan combo on my trucks and actually grew to like it. Weird thing is, I hate that tan color even worse than I don't like the brown, but the 2 tone Brown/Tan works well for me. The brown also works a bit like camo too in the woods, so it's not all bad. If you didn't want to paint the firewall and doors jambs, you could still go with a different shade of brown and it still go together ok. Not like a previously Red truck, then paint it blue. I hate seeing those eye sores like that.

hotrodpc, I never thought about the camo in the woods, I like it. body work and paint will probably be the last things on my to do list. so that means its gonna be brown for quite a while. which I give 2 thumbs up. and thanks for letting me know that other vehicle makers have very similar paint colors.
