First off, I'm a trucker and can't try new tips until I get home.

Just picked up a short bed from a friend and looking for tips, tricks, and "weak" spots. My first orders of business are:
Windshield ✅
Brake lines
Carb rebuild
Fuel tanks/straps/sending units/lines
New window motors
Drive the hell of of it
Do truck stuff
In that order

welcome. sounds good enough. depending on what you're used to, that 305 might be considered a "weak spot"

I'm looking at 350 heads on the way to a twin turbo 454. But that's all way down the road

I'm looking at 350 heads on the way to a twin turbo 454. But that's all way down the road
I don't think the 350 heads are going to work. the cylinder is too small for the valve to open fully

I've always been under the impression that the only difference between the 305 and the 350 was the heads, then again GM hasn't been my strong suit.

305s have a tiny bore I’m not sure of what it is , because if I get something with one in it gets yanked.

nope, different bore same stroke.

shoot for $300 I'd stick to your list. let any other problems you might run into shake out in the first thousand miles of driving it. then you'll have a list of "weak areas" to fix

The 350 has a 4" bore. the 305 has 3.75" iirc?
