When my uncle retired from G/Y wheel and brake div. he gave me a can of cosmaline. I've used it on my Taco. Appling it with a brush was a horrable job. Even after 2 or 3 showers, I still smelled it and stunk like it. But, over the course of a winter, it seemed to be all washed off. (Must of been all those wonderful Ohio salt-bubble baths..)
Anywho, I've been playing around with mixing cosmo and wax to see if I can come up with something similiar to the Zebart stuff that still drips from the truck 46 years sfter being applied.
So here's what I've come up with.
Sealing wax mixed well with the cosmo but didn't really stick and it seemed too wax like.
Next I tried a wax toilet ring. Just the plain ring (new, not used) It was a 50/50 eyeball mix. Heated and stirred well.
Then while still very warm, it wss applied with a brush. Now, so far it acts like the undercosting. It will get all over ya and still be some left on the part. So, plain cosmo will spread like a thin grease. This schmootz flows nice while hot, but can still be applied when at room temp.
I have no way to spray it but would love to mix a couple gal and try an airless system, but again keeping it hot would be the trick.
We shall see.
Oh, btw...if ya happen to play with mixing your own, do it outside. Hot cosmo is really stinky. And too hot smokes.
So if its smoking its too hot.
Danger! It will ignite, as will hot wax.
