02/10/19 UPDATE-
Hello again to all! I didn’t realize it has been nearly 4yrs since I last worked on this truck. I moved away for a couple of years with work, but have since transferred back and now finally able to start bringing this project back to life.

I finally broke the ice and pulled/tore down my first motor this weekend. This motor ran good but I’ve been chomping at the bit to do this for years. By no means am I a mechanic, however I have wrenched a little here and there over the years. I wanted to do it myself to learn a little bit along the way and also work on the same motor that my grandfather once tuned as well. Overall everything went smooth, however splitting the Tcase (attempting to keep it from smashing to the ground) from the transmission before pulling the motor/trans was definitely a pain in the a**! I got it though with the help from a work buddy and we both still have all limbs attached.

Just getting started:

Can anyone give me any information on the transmission and TCase? I’ve seen literature on GMSB before but can’t recall where I found it.

What are your plans for the engine?

As of now having it bored, hot cam, new carb, aluminum intake, headers..

Yes the bumpers were on the truck when my grandfather purchased it years ago.. they are 1/8” plate I believe. Definitely solid lol!

Welcome back!

The trans is an SM465 with a 10 spline output and "figure 8" style NP205 transfer case, with a 10 spline input. That combo would be from a '79 or older truck, or possibly also an '80-'84 K30 crew cab (no slip yoke).

I’m ready to hear this thing thump!

Anyone got any leads on a good bolt in replacement radiator? The old one was an aftermarket unit and junk to be honest. Thanks.

Hello again to all. As you can see it has been a while (YEARS) since I've worked on the truck, lol. It has honestly been tucked away for too long now. I decided to go ahead and finally start the complete tear down and freshen up. Got the bed removed and started chipping away at getting the rig stripped completely down to start with the frame. I plan on documenting this build and hope to share with everyone along the way. God Bless!
