Greetings and salutations.

I purchased a 1975 GMC C1500 at the beginning of October 2022 and recently found this forum. I just wanted to say howdy and see what top-of-mind items I should be looking at investigating as a new square body owner.

Here's what's on the list currently:

Done:
Valve cover leak (fixed)
Coolant system flush & replace all hoses (fixed)
Spark plugs & wires (replaced)
Rear differential oil change

Todo:
Oil pan gasket replacement
Transmission filter & gasket replacement
"taco hood" resolution
Fix temperature sensor gauge (replaced sending unit)
Fix speedometer (replaced very dry speedometer cable)

There are a few other odds and ends on the list, but I'm curious about what else I should look for in this series of vehicles.

Thanks,
Ken

Very nice looking truck. That bed should be pristine with the shell on it.

The shell apparently leaked enough or was put on late enough that the bed is severely rusted out towards the cab. Open to suggestions on how to tackle rusted bed repairs.

Floor only, or bedsides and front panel as well?

Without a 100% exploration of rust into the front panel, it looks to be in decent shape. The bed itself is the largest concern and one that I don't have any experience attacking.

Best bet is to find one of the forum members with a rusted out rear section that will sell you their good front section. Simple for a good body man to cut out the old and splice in the new. Or just find a new bed out of the plenty of squares that you folks seem to have in the PNW.
