Greetings
I am the proud owner of a 1989 GMC Suburban. It is the 2500 Trailer model with the 454, factory towing option, 8 lug wheels, and 3.73 rear end. A beast. The SO and I decided to look into getting an RV. After a lot of looking around I decided on a travel trailer. All I had was a Ford Taurus and an Explorer (5 speed) so I needed a towing rig. 5 minutes on CL and I found this baby. Owned by an older guy who had stopped RVing and just had this lying around. He was anal about the maintenance of it, and had spent about $10,000 on it since he bought it second hand (with 88K for $14K) back in 1995. The body has some rust, but not too bad. In fact, I'm in the process of patching it up. Runs great, everything works. Also came with a set of studded snows with rims. Paid $1,300 for the package.
I give you, "The Massive"
The paint on the hood was toast. Sanded it all off and primed it. Monday I'll pick up a quart of Olympic White. I just couldn't stop at the hood. The grill, bezzels, and trim over the bumper needed a touch up too.
All taped up
Much better
I'm working my way around the rig. Heavy rust under the stick-on trim on the drivers side door. Gonna need a little fiberglass to patch that one. Also the barn doors need a lot of work. If anyone could give me a link to a place I can buy replacement weatherstripping, I would be grateful.
More later...
