Recently purchased a 1986 GMC Sierra Classic 4x4 with a 5.0L 305 V8. Her bones look strong. Engine only has 110K miles on it. We purchased it to be our family recreation truck.

I'm excited to find this website and forums. It's been a few years since I've turned a wrench, old Navy Seabee Construction Mechanic, but this truck has me looking forward to do something with my weekend besides watching TV.

Have a great week everyone. I'll see you around.

This is the night we bought the rig, 2/22/25. We got her about 10 miles from home before the tire blew out. Tried to get the spare off, but the retainer bolt was bent. I'll get more pictures up today. She was at the coast for the last 7 years. Lots more rust than I anticipated. But nothing that can't be fixed. Thank goodness I know a good welder/fabricator. I'll be getting a cover for it to keep the Pacific Northwest Rain from making things worse.

I had my mechanic take a look at it. We replaced the set of 4 tires and will need to do the spare once we start driving it regularly. The engine is good condition. Only problem there is the previous owner ripped out the emissions system and bypassed everything. Where I live, I need that to license the truck. Sigh. It will also need right rear axle repairs and replacement brakes. The seal has been leaking gear oil all over the brake shoes on that side. The front suspension, steering linkage and such are good and tight. Front pads were replaced recently.

We plan to take the camper off and add the nice spray bed-liner and tonneau cover to the bed. I'll post more pictures later today as it will be dry and sunny. We can do a lot of the work ourselves, except the paint. Just going to take a lot of time.

Today's photos. She looks better without the shell.
