New here.. NW Ohio 86' Sierra Classic

Hey all!!

I'm from NW Ohio. Sporting a Clean 1986 GMC Sierra Classic. 66,000 originial miles.

I am currently rebuilding the motor due to a worn valve guide and a leaking main seal. This is my first square body, and I'm looking forward to making it bad ass.. Upgrading horses, torque, and height. haha

Currently sitting on stock suspension, with the motor pulled.. Starting to break down the motor this week.

Bad news... valve guide is bad... block is scored really bad in number 6 with a lot of wear on the rest... new a new power plant.. any suggestions.. $1500 budget...

Howdy!

That sounds like very abnormal wear for only 66k. But you should be able to pull off a stock overhaul and keep it within the budget.

Welcome, good looking truck. I wouldn't mind rebuilding an engine for a rig in that condition. A machinist can tell you quick if that can be fixed. .030 overbore may be all it needs. Head work, pistons and the rest of the goodies are reasonably priced if you build it yourself but you are still at the cost range of a crate unit. I prefer to build my own. Good luck!

I am very much on the fence.. This truck is spotless underneath as well. I will get some more pictures up as soon as i can. But I want to keep the original motor and trans with the truck and make this a full restore since it is in such good shape.

Downside.. I'm very new to this stuff..
