Hi everyone,

New to the site. I have a 85 K10. Recently added a 3 in body lift, 35in tires, detroit trutrac rear diff, and 4.88 gears. Trying to figure out engine ideas. Im contemplating getting a crate 350 from jegs ( goodwrench 350ci) adding the holley pro jection kit (670cfm 2bbl), headers, to single 3in pipe with flowmaster super 50 muffler. Does this sound like a decent idea. I rarely "offroad" and plan on keeping the truck forever. I would like to tow a small boat and possibly use truck as a daily commuter to work. Im up for all or any ideas and advice. The current 350 engine, transmission, and exhaust is bone stock, with roughly 200,000 miles.

Thanks for any help.

Everything sounds fine, but you can get a bunch more torque by re-camming the 350/260hp engine. I put a Comp 12-300-4 in mine and love the low end grunt of it. 12-235-2 and 12-234-2 are also nice choices, less torque but more horsepower, but require replacing the stock springs.

If you re-cam it right out of the box, you don't need to change the lifters. Of course you void the warranty, but what the heck. The things are bulletproof anyway.

Man. 4.88's are a little high for no OD. I would find a 4l80 and get you a controller also alongside with your engine.

Driver,

The truck has a TH700-R4 so even with the 4.88 I can cruise down the hwy. But I feel like anything over 65mph is really throwing money out the window.

NO that's a good combo those 700r4's like steep gearing. Put a good size cooler up front for that tranny and it should last a while. Make sure your lock up is working in OD and you should be good.

I will price some of the tranny coolers. Good idea, im sure a good cooler would be worth the money.

Oh also make sure TV cable is adjusted properly. As that will destroy even a brand new tranny in no time.
