Hello all, recently inherited a '78 GMC Sierra Grande that runs pretty well but could use some work. Intend to stop the rust from taking over and getting it reliable to drive daily (or almost daily). My 12 year old son is trying to claim it as his first vehicle and I think it will be a great project for us over the next few years.

It's 2wd, long bed, 3 speed on the column, 350ci engine, started with no AC but some sort of unit has been "added", only 90k miles.

:welcome: I think that is an awesome idea. Some of my fondest memories of my father are working on old cars and trucks. I personally would get rid of the three on the tree, and replace it with a nice 4 speed. Another thing... it will teach him a valuable life lesson... How to drive a stick.

Welcome from MT! Cool truck and teaching your son how to drive a 3 on the tree would be really awesome. He'd probably be the only kid his age in the WORLD who knew how to drive one!

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. I've thought about switching the transmission for a 4 speed or at least convert it to 3 on the floor. The first vehicle I ever owned was a '79 long bed 4wd with 3 on the floor + granny gear. I loved that truck and miss it.

Don't have a lot of pics other than what's in my sig and below:

Hey Jim, Charlotte native here. If you are in town you should join the Queen City C-10 truck club. It's a bunch of local truck guys who get together and go to shows and cruises and stuff. Did you go to the last c10 reunion?

Mark and Big Jim, I have never made the C-10 Reunion, but have watched it grow.
We have several truck events around here. A similar one here is (well Lebanon, TN) called SE GM Truck Nationals. Usually has about 1,800 GM trucks. Great show.
Also, there's several other GM shows around here.
