By 1987 the neutral safety switch (formerly used with automatic transmissions) was history - 1984 was the last year I think.
It was replaced with a mechanical interlock in the column that prevented the ignition lock from being turned to the START position unless the gearshift was in P/N. The combination NSS/BU light switch became just a BU light switch. The NSS contacts -and the wiring that connected them - were eliminated from the harness.
On the other hand, trucks equipped with a manual transmission continued to be fitted with the "clutch start interlock" switch. But seeing as your truck came out of the factory with an A/T, that switch and the associated wiring won't be there.
So, since you won't find wiring for either a CSS or a NSS in your truck, you will need to splice a CSS into the lead that runs from the ignition switch to the starter solenoid. For trucks originally equipped with an A/T - and from MY 1985 and up - there is a purple wire that runs straight from the ignition to the solenoid.
So, after you source a clutch safety switch (and find a way to actuate it with the clutch pedal) all you have to do is cut the purple lead and insert the CSS wiring/switch.
The PPL 6 circuit (one wire) will be in the bundle with a yellow tracer:

I'm severely color deficient but, going by it's location on the ignition switch, I am fairly certain the yellow arrow is pointing to the wire you need to splice the new CSS into.
This image shows it better (disregard the yellow circle and line):
