Need some mechanical input

As I mentioned before in my intro, I recently purchased an '87 R10 w/ TBI 350 that has been sitting for about 6 years. I'm going to be doing the following: draining the tank, draining all the fluids, changing hoses, squirting Marvel Mystery Oil to free up/lube up engine prior to turning it by hand, changing fuel filter, changing plugs/wires, changing brake pads/rubber hoses on brake system. Anything else I should check prior to start up? Everything appears to be in good shape from what I saw, I haven't done the thorough inspection of it yet. Welcome to any other suggestions/hints/tips/tricks, etc anyone is willing to share.

If it has any modifications such as aftermarket headers, intake, carb, etc, I would make sure everything is tightened correctly first. Might want to buy a bottle of seafoam and run it through to clean all the grime out.

Lube every moving part with a quality lubricant. I like to pour a mix of auto trans fluid with oil half and half, and use a paint brush to brush oil on pretty much everything. Undercarriage (if you are as OCD as me..) engine compartment, bushings, rust spots, door jamb, hinges, you get the point.

Also, grease all steering joints.

Thanks for the hints Jux. Everything on the truck appeared stock on the first inspection. I'm probably as OCD as you when it comes to maintenance haha

I'd say your on the right track. Be prepared for a nasty varnished mess in that fuel tank.

You might want to prime the engine lube system before you rotate the engine. You can buy a fancy tool for modify an old junk distributor so that it doesn't engage the gear on the cam. Spin it with a drill until you get good oil pressure. You have to keep track of you distibutor timing when you but the dizzy back in but that will help that dry engine live longer once you get it back up and running.

yes be VERY prepared....what my 2nd tank in the dual setup looked like. Must have not been used in years and was completely full.

or you can get one from a parts store. I just don't understand how the 20 gallon tanks are cheaper than 16 gallon.
