If its a mkiv 454 look for the stamped number just above the timing chain cover, on the block infront of the intake manifold
You must be registered for see images attach

Then google "limebook" it has all the info on where it was built and what for

The dates and castings don't match up to known date codes. What an interesting engine.

Deck may have been machined in its lifetime and the numbers were milled off?
I agree that was a possibility it had been machined down. Either way sucks not having them.

Not ideally what you'd like for your builders to do, some restamp the numbers, others don't care lol

Well if it were machined it was a long time ago so I could understand them not really caring if they were wiped off. If it was more recent then it would be better preserved. That's my thoughts on it but that being said I still have to get back out there and see if the numbers above the timing cover are there. Would be pretty cool if they were, it's like scratching a lottery ticket never know if your a winner. Lol

Ok so going with the flow of this weird damn engine I went out and scratched the numbers ( T0315XXW) and did a little research. Again can't find anything for suffix XXW found XW but says it's a 350 SB that's not possible so... Anyone seen this suffix before? It decodes fine otherwise T= Tonawanda, NY 03= March 15= day of month.

Trying to load the lime book and BigBlock casting number data, see attached below.
This is a handy little pic of doing your vin id for older squares.

Anyway, yep cant find XXW either? Tonawanda plant which is pretty much all big blocks I understand.

3999290 Block 1972 402 240 hp 2 bolt
3964290 Heads 1966 - 70 427, 454 335hp, 385hp, 390hp, 400hp, 345hp, 360hp, 390hp
using the attached Big Block/Head ID sheet?

Maybe in its life someone transplanted a 402 in there with some big oval ports heads for a bit more power?
The mystery continues!

hey Bigrod84.
You said you got some cool RPO codes. do you have a photo of them, the glove box one, or if you are lucky the one under the bench seat?
I was looking in my Chevy Big-Block book, and the 402 shows as LS3, L34 or L78 for a 1970 truck codes, I know yours is later but just wondered what codes you have?

I'll have a look under the seat but I've never known of there being any under there. I've got a pic of the RPO codes just shocked they were still there. Thing about Texas these ranchers around here don't care about that stuff if it falls off while cleaning there glove box out every 10 yrs sadly that RPO sheets go on the trash. The only thing that I know the man I bought it from that had had it for yrs (sat with inch of dust in warehouse) said it was used for transportation of head stones at a funeral home in Waco, TX. Anyway cool thing is there still in the box!
