Need help and baffled

Hey guys,
I was having the notorious clunk when cold and putting in gear. I also had a small leak that was obvious from the rear output shaft seal. I replaced both u-joints in the rear driveshaft and the rear seal. After doing that I still have a leak from a weird spot. Please see photos. My question is. Is the yoke a solid piece is it possible the fluid is leaking through. THe seal area is completely dry. I'm confused. If someone could shed some light would be great.

IIRC, there's an internal seal that the yoke rides on that can fail. And the yoke has a little vent hole in the center of it, that lets fluid leak out when the internal seal is bad. I've heard of people fixing it by simply plugging the little hole with epoxy or rtv or similar.

is it running down the rear output shaft and onto the yoke? If so then the rear output shaft seal needs replaced. Its a cheap seal and not too bad to do

Thanks. Do you know if I can see it with the u-joints in. I'm certain I broke that seal with heat. The joints weren't budging at all until I took a torch to them

The seal would be on the output shaft, within the housing. Again, I'm not 100% positive about all this. Just look for a small hole on the end of the yoke.

my output shaft seal has been leaking forever its because I overfilled the transfercase and the access is dripping out

Thanks ceasar, I will take out t h is weekend and see if I have that relief hole.

I found out there is a seal at the bottom of the slip yoke. It's not the hole pictured above. Need a new slip yoke and have the driveshaft balanced. Thx for all the input.

4wd's do not have an inner seal on the transfer case out put shaft. Also the yoke should not require one either. The center of the transfer case out put shaft carries ATF down the center core of it delivering it to the bottom of the yoke, this is then forced through the splines of the yoke and out put shaft to lubricate the splines. So as long as the yoke is fitted back inside the rear out put seal you will have no leaks.......unless you have the wrong 2wd yoke installed.

So mine appears to be leaking as the OP, what is the fix? New yoke? The yoke didn't leak when installed in my old 208, but does installed in my 241

The new slip yoke fixed my issue. I'm thinking that mine didn't leak because once it leaks low enough to send fluid down there it stop. But once I filled it back up with the work I did. That is why it started leaking again. Maybe that's why its leaking on your 241 now.

How much did a new one cost?

I had to heat the yoke to remove factory ujoint, so that prob messed up the plug or whatever. Always something

It cost 165 but thats due to the fact that the driveshaft has to be balanced. I will say I do have a little less vibration while driving. Don't know if its mental or really did improve things. I to also used heat to get my old ball joints out.
