First off I would like to say hello as I am new here. I have had a couple K-20, & C20 trucks for a few years that I keep up at my house in the mountains.
I usually build about 1 vehicle a year or sometimes it takes 2. Been wanting to slam a square body for a while now and trying to buy this 78 for about 2 years off and on.
Finally scored it exactly 2 months ago.
Drug it home, (stopped by the tire shop to fix a flat) and the next day, tore it down to begin the process of dropping it on the ground.
In one day we had it in pieces and the rolling chassis in the garage to begin the transformation to a bagged driver.
***Here's where it gets interesting. I would not even consider buying one of those super expensive front crossmembers. Coming from a carpentry background I envisioned a "bridge" drop up front instead of a "Z" or something like that.
Now, if this offends you, I apologize, not for doing what I want to my truck, but just for posting it on yall'z forum.
If it doesn't then follow along. I will show you something that everybody said could not be done and should not be done. Well, I disagree.
From my perspective, it was pretty straight forward way to accomplish my goals of dropping my truck without spending a ton of money doing it.

Right on. Glad to have you on board.
Last pic was of the truck at ride height. About 4 inches off the pavement. About the same as a Corvette, except I will be able to raise it up another 4 or more if/when needed.

Yep. Had those stupid wide tires on there that it came with. Had to let the air out of it to keep it from bulging the fender out when all the way down. Since then I bought a set of stock wheels and had some (set of 4 matching) stock size tires put on. This way I can set it down or up and be able to roll it in and out of the garage stall when needed.

Forgot to mention;
Put a 2000 5.7L LS-1 & a T-56 6 speed manual transmission in the old girl.
Gonna have a pretty good sized tunnel in between the buckets.

Thanks. Figure it'll take about a year. Motor & tranny both have issues that'll need to be addressed. Mocking up & fabricating now.

Ok...you have my attention.

You should join us local Phx guys and meet up at the shows. I figure...the more the merrier. If you need leads on local parts, let me know. My square took two years to get it where it is today and I have some excellent sources for all things square.....body parts, cabs, doors, beds etc. Who knows...maybe you could use some of my leftover parts?

keep up the posts

For sure. I might need some parts before it's over. I go to the Pavilions and always go to Goodguys. Currently driving my 72 El Camino. Look forward to meeting others who like em low.
