My 700r4 changes too early ?

Before doing anything, make sure the throttle opens all the way from the drivers seat. Make sure linkage flex, floormats, or something else is preventing the throttle from opening all the way.

Have a helper sit in the drivers seat, with the engine off (duh!) have him floor it while you look down the carb. Make sure the throttle opens fully, if not bend the throttle cable bracket until it does. Then adjust the tv cable.

If it still shifts early, the. It’s time to play with the governor.

Keep in mind, you can quickly damage the trans if the cable isn’t right. As long as the trans shifts firmly with zero slipping or greasy shifts, you can more than likely get the shift points where you want them by tuning the governor. If the trans has early shifts, with slip/sliding gear changes you need to immediately stop and find out why.

If I put the peddle to the floor it will change around 3500 -4000rpm 3 to OD but the lower gears change even earlier.
Will this shift kit do the trick?

ZZ4/700R4 and ford 9 inch with 3.50 gears.

You need to provide more information about your truck's set up as well as what has already been done to the governor, if anything. Is the engine stock or highly modified? Is this a daily/cruiser or do you have it set up for racing? Have you shimmed or blocked the TV limit valve in the valve body?

700R4s in stock daily driver trucks typically shift 1-2 at 10-15 mph @ around 2000-2500 rpm with moderate throttle...2-3 shift should occur around 25-30mph and 3-4 around 35-40mph with a stock, non-high performance governor. Do a line pressure test as well to see if your LP is excessive...

Thanks will check all that out. Especially the floor mats I put some extra thick sound deadener under floor carpet a while back! Could be that simple.

It's my now retired shop truck from my now closed motorcycle business. It's a daily driver/run around for me. ZZ4 is a GM crate motor. The 9 inch rear is from 14 years ago when I had all sorts of HP fantasies that died with the realities of real life.
It sounds like it is changing normally after reading your post but I have a few things to check now. Thanks.
