The the 400 in my 86 3/4 suburban is making noise in first gear. I have had this truck for 7 years,and no plans to get rid of it.what is the best cash and carry builder? I don't mind spending money,but I want what I pay for.it is a four wheel drive,is there anything I could upgrade for the weight? Never speced an auto trans before..thanks

Im in the same boat, instead of finding a ready to bolt in unit I am probably going to tear mine down and do it myself.

There is a series of books called the "benchtop series" at Barnes and Nobles. I have gotten several of them on everything from rebuilding my big block to understanding wiring. Last one I got was on rebuilding Turbo 400 transmissions, its way easier than you think. Go check it out man, you can build exactly what you want with premium parts in your garage!

Help me figure out a 4speed option and I'll sell a th400 with less than 50,000 miles on it.
I have a 96 diesel with a 4l80e... How much trouble is this swap?

Picking the right unit is going to be a task..is a 400 stronger then a 700r? A lot of the units are for high horsepower.
