My truck is quickly rusting away. The doors and front fenders are a lost cause at this point, but need to try and save the cab and the bed. The bed started getting some surface rust pits that were coming thru the paint. Started grinding off the paint to see how bad it is.
Tomorrow night my order of Monstaliner bedliner will be delivered. It is roll on bedliner with the grit (rubber chunks) removed so it is more smooth. Since rock chips and tree/brush pin striping are issues with normal paint this should take care of that.
I had ordered a gallon of their silver aluminum chassis saver, a gallon of blue tintable bedliner, and some basic black for the inside of the wheel wells.

I don't need it to look pretty, just need it to protect.

This is the color I ordered, and eventually I hope it looks like this. I need to order new doors and fenders sometime this winter then will start on the front half next spring when it is warm enough to apply it.

I used it as an undercoat on my crew cab

but I sprayed it with an undercoat gun I bought off ebay for under 30 bucks

Looks nice! Has it been holding up well? I wish I could spray it, but no compressor and no spray gun. Can't afford to run out and buy a compressor right now either.

the truck is still a project in the works and progress has been slow for awhile.
I have never driven it

just been collecting parts and money for it hopefully it will be the project in the garage this winter.

I sprayed the fiber board top to my tool box at the same time as I did the underbody. and it has held up awesome I toss tools on it and use it as a work bench. and it has not even chipped or anything yet. I also plan to use it in the bed as a bed liner when I get that far.

the under coat gun is cheap do you have any equipment rental places around you. might be able to rent a compressor cheap.

I am really happy with the way it sprayed I wouldn't roll it after seeing how well it sprayed.

How well did the bed liner spray gun you bought work, and what kind of spray pattern does it shoot? Did you have to thin the bed liner or were you able to spray it straight out of the can?

I did not thin it at all it looks a lot like rhino lining the texture it has
I played with the air pressure until I liked the way it sprayed

it was a undercoat gun I posted a link to the same type of gun in my previous post in this thread

The silver chassis saver is very thin- kinda shocked at how runny it was. Now it needs to dry overnight then can put the bedliner on tomorrow morning.

That looks awesome nice job.

For future reference you should look into renting a compressor, my local rental has large engine driven compressors for like 120 bucks a day.

I tried to find a receipt of when I bought it but can't. Pretty sure it was a gallon. And in all honesty I needed a bit more to go over the cab again.
I was going to just do the bed of the truck with that gallon but saw how much left over I was going to have- so in a panic roughed up the paint on the cab, pulled some trim and did the front also.

Has it held up well? I'm planning to do my 82. I was thinking 3 gallons for the exterior and bed, and a gallon for the interior of the cab.

It has held up really well. Just like any sort of painting just make sure you prep the surface well first.
I've driven probably at least 2,000 miles on gravel roads with it and am often on overgrown roads. Trees can still scratch a bit- but is way more durable than paint.
