machining drw d60 hubs

after doing some reserch on machining the dually hubs, i saw many people saying that it was dangerous for street use. Is there anyone out there who was done this to there hubs on street and trail rig? $100 bucks is sounding better than $500 bucks for for new srw hubs! if not is there anyone who wants to trade srw hubs for drw hubs? ill pay shipping

I don't see why it would be dangerous. The only difference in the long run is that the wheel seats against 8 "pads" instead of a solid wheel mounting surface (if memory serves correctly), besides that the DRW hub ends up just like the SRW hub.

What size tires are you going to run? If you go with a 16.5 you can just keep the hubs as they are and run the H1 rims.

ill be running 38-40's, i just had a guy off craigslist offer me 150 for the pair, so i think ill let them go and start saving up for a set of ac delco rotors and hubs

i dont remember the name of the site, but it was $500 for the pair. what all would have to done in the machining process besides removing the dually mounting surface? Does the outside of the hub have to be machined down at all?

Yeah I think it does. I think it would be best to give a machine shop the rotor/hub, new studs, and a rim so you can say "make this wheel fit over the hub so these studs can bolt it all together".

here's my .02 If the email I have is correct you can still buy new Dana 60 hubs with rotors, as I have ordered a pair. They are listed as $171 each without shipping. As soon as they arrive I will check them over and post a reply with part#'s if they look worth the money. Just waiting on FedEx.

I had a set of dually hubs converted to single wheel.

cut the flange off turn down the hub and true up the wheel mounting surface drill out he threads for press in studs done worked great.

I think it narrowed the track width a little I am running 16.5 wheels no issues

had it in this blazer for about 2 years daily drove it and beat the snot out of it off road. with a arb air locker I only broke one stub axle no other problems.

building another truck with it now

You can still buy NEW Dana 60 hubs with rotors from RockAuto. My pair arrived today in plain brown boxes so I can't tell if it's USA or ? made. They look as good as any other rotors/hubs I've bought recently, here's the part # 177703.
