Went from SM465 W/205 TC to NV3500 with a 208 in about 1996, IIRC I had to find a 208 with the correct splined input shaft. Had to have the rear driveshaft shortened & found a used DC shaft that fit the front. I was able to use a T case shifter from a mid 90's truck (driver side of trans tunnel) with a home made custom linkage that actually passed through the webbing (drilled hole) on top of the 3500. The clutch slave cylinder provision on the 3500 bell housing (on passenger side) was nearly touching the front shaft after install. A small 3.5" lift produced plenty of clearance.

When I swapped out the 3500 about a year & half later for a 700R4 I had to swap input shafts on the 208 which was a common easy to source part at the time. The driveshafts from the 3500/208 combo fit the 700R4/208 combo fine lengthwise.

I recommend getting new master and slave cylinders instead of pick-n-pull used ones. My used master cylinder leaked brake fluid on the brand new carpet I bought since I changed where all of the linkage holes on the tranny tunnel were.

I would also recommend using hard lines for the hydraulic clutch, I installed mine in the winter using plastic line and it worked fine until spring when it warmed up. The plastic line allowed enough flex that I could no longer disengage the clutch. I did get really good at shifting without using the clutch though.
