The PO also got rid of the wood grain on the dash too.

Nope that was me. Not a fan, much prefer the silver. Got rid of wood grain on pass side dash as well, and both doors. Neat trick about removing it on the pass side dash: it peeled off super easy, left hardly any residue, and the finish below is very similar (same?) as what you'd expect on a base trim. Only downside was I broke the Silverado badge in the process, but I found an earlier (87-88 I think) version on e-bay and it looks good. When I took it off on the doors it left residue and didn't have a nice finish so I used the fake carbon fiber tape from the parts store and it looks decent.

Thanks man, really nice of you to offer. But I kind of like the older one and I'll probably just keep that one on there.

When I converted the barn doors to tailgate I went to a good auto paint store to get paint matched for it
So you went from barn doors to a tail gate? Any pictures of that process by any chance? A buddy of mine is wanting to do the opposite, but having trouble finding pics of all that's necessary...

A lot depends on the year. The earlier Suburbans with tailgate actually had the mount holes for the barn doors in the jambs.

Yep, here’s the link to my build thread.

It’s not a project for the faint of heart, especially if you have mid 80s or later. As @bucket mentions, some years are easier than others. At some point before the early or mid 80s, Burbs rolled down the assembly line with all the provisions for both styles, eg all mounting plates, threaded bolt and screw holes, structural support etc. but after that point they diverged on the line much earlier almost surely to reduce cost. If you have one built after that point there is a lot of work involved including some minor fab. You need a parts rig too - I don’t think it’d be possible without one.

- wrap em in electrical tape at the base.

Them wheel are badass.

Finally got around to taking the wheels off today and did this fix. 4 wraps of electrical tape at the base and they are nice and tight now. Haven't driven it yet to make sure the rattles are gone, but I don't see why they wouldn't be. Thanks for the advice.
