I have my rear end completely tore apart due to a gear swap. I have some scoring on both of the shafts. I’m guessing from the wheel bearings. Would this concern you? Or should I just replace the bearing and seals and call it good? The close up pick is the more severe passenger side shaft.

The bearings are press fit right? Or am I thinking of other models? If the bearings are press fit they're not riding on the axle anyway. They should be riding on the inner bearing race. If that's the case, then I'd say go for it and run'em.

Yea they are pressed in. Just want to make sure everything is good to go. Don’t want to take this rear end apart again so I’m replacing everything.

Not a bad idea. My opinion would be, so long as they press on tight as they should, I'd run'em. If they felt loose like as if the inner race would be able to slide on the axle shaft, then for sure I'd replace them but they're tightly pressed on then yep, I'd go for it.

Yes it would concern me. Those band aide sleeves are just that. Snap a pic of the roller bearing presses in the housing. Any kind o slop between the bearing and axle will kill the seal. The spiral grooves help some to keep the oil down but not 100% effective. If you put new bearing in with those axles it will only get worse. I’d say new axles, bearings and seals. Your that far already no sense half assing it.

I'd bite the bullet, and get new axles while they're out.

The bearing presses into the axle housing not onto the axle? So then it's not the type that does have the inner bearing race? So I was thinking of the other car model where it has a fully caged bearing that is pressed onto the axle shaft. You're saying this is the type where the outer race is pressed into the axle housing, and the axle itself rides directly on the bearings and there is no inner race? Been a long time since I worked on any 10 or 12 bolts, truck or car. Obvioulsy getting the 2 mixed up.

Now that I think about it, I should have known too because the trucks are C clips and most of the passenger car axles I worked on that did for sure have the bearing pressed on the axle shaft itself, had the 4 bolt retainer plate and no C Clip.

Ford 9”, Dodge stuff and pre 65 GM and BOP had a bearing pressed on the axle. Any Chevy 8.2,7.5,7.6,8.5,8.6 and 12 bolt car and truck have axle to roller bearing direct contact with the bearing being pressed into the housing.

I checked for slop, I couldn’t find any. I will take a picture later when I get home. It looks to be factory bearings and seals. If I was to get new shafts, 30 spline would be the way to go?

Yes as long as your carrier will accept them.

Bearings are tight on both sides. And no the truck is not being supported by landscaping blocks.

According to the charts you can run a 4:10 gear on your current carrier. 2.73 and up. Assuming it’s an 8.5 10 bolt the 12 bolts are more of a pain.
